Entrance in Winter

Bill, raised in the countryside of Vermont, enjoyed the special sound of the gravel driveway common in New England. Lois, a city girl from Brooklyn, preferred pavement underfoot.  A long term point of contention between the couple, after Lois had come to terms with the loss of Bill (on January 24, 1971), one of her first renovations on the property was to replace the crunchy, stone driveway with black top.

This is the very driveway that Lois snow shoveled all by herself one year and the next day had a heart attack.  Having fully recovered, Lois lived at Stepping Stones until her last days, passing away on October 5, 1988 at the age of 97.
