Lois Burham in 1902
Lois Wilson was born Lois Burnham on March 4, 1891 at 182 Clinton Street in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Lois was the eldest of six children; the youngest passed in infancy.
Lois’ parents modelled a spirit of service to others. She attended private schools, was raised in the Swedenborgian faith, and engaged in many arts and culture activities in Brooklyn and Manhattan. In the summers the Burhams loved to be outdoors in Vermont, especially at their camp on Emerald Lake.
In Lois Remembers, published by Al-Anon Family Groups, Lois described her childhood as “idyllic,” and it seems that this is an accurate assessment.
