Screened Porch & Flowers
Following Lois’ wishes, the gardens remain as much as possible the way she had them. Her diaries – a treasure in Stepping Stones Archive – offer a remarkable asset when working to maintain the historic integrity of the gardens. Many of Lois’ favorite types of plants and flowers are featured.
After beginning a tour visit at the Welcome Center, guests enter the Wilson home through the screened-in porch that overlooks a small valley. Lois also filled that porch with plants and a terrarium filled with small plastic and wooden dinosaurs that became known as her “dinosaur garden.” She also had a bird box attached to the porch with seeds to lure birds close in for better viewing. She also had a bird feeder outside her bedroom window.
